Slumped Plates

I have been experimenting with fused glass plates this week. I found this awesome photo on Flickr and I decided to create a piece based on it.

I used liquid glass and cake decorating tools to create a ‘painting’ on a 4 inch square sheet of glass. This is a photo of the glass a few minutes after I finished the painting. It is already almost completely dry and ready to go into the kiln.

The colors get a lot brighter when they are fired. I stacked the painting on top of iridescent glass to give it a hint of shimmer. After fusing the plate in the kiln I slumped it (added a slight bend) over a plate mold. This second photo is of the finished product.

What a beautiful plate! I have just recently bought some liquid stringer medium, but haven’t really experimented much with it yet. You do wonderful work and I admire your web presence. How long have you been in business?

I wish you much success - looks like you are very successful.
